Jeff Brain's Art and Poetry
John Barahona: Painter
The images in the gallery are all illustrations done in Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop. I often work directly on the computer, but sometimes take scans from my sketchbook into the digital realm. I started creating baseball illustrations in 1980 as a writer for the Piedmont TImes, covering UC Berkeley baseball. Instead of photographing the games, I started capturing the energy of the game through my sketches. More recently, I've been writing poetry to accompany my artwork, even performing at The Marsh in Berkeley, reciting my poetry backed by a jazz quartet. Baseball poetry side-by-side with my artwork is driving my current project. This has continued to this day, finally resulting in this online showcase.
The image below, watercolor and quill pen, from my sketchbook served as the basis for some of the images above: Scouting Report; with short poems added while creating the digital pieces.
