I spent over twenty-five years as an educator, primarily at the middle school level in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have experience both as a teacher and administrator, from K-12, and teaching at San Francisco State University. I retired from public school teaching in 2019. My main emphasis as a teacher has been creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking. I have taught Art, Digital art, Multimedia, Poetry, English, Speech and Debate, History, and many other topics.
I've consulted with Zynga, Common Sense Media, Leapfrog, StoriumEdu, The Game Academy, and others in education and curriculum design settings. I recently spent two years as a KQED Media Literacy Innovator.
I have spoken at numerous education and gaming conferences, including CUE, ISTE, ComicCon San Diego, Dundracon, and CLMS.
I am available as a consultant in arts education, game design, and curriculum design.
My most recent talk was delivered at Virtual Fall CUE, 2020, and is linked below.
